Three most popular Johann Sebastian Bach compositionsBach

It was a quick survey done in one day on his birthday (new style - March 21st, 2010) on Twitter, FaceBook and MySpace. 325 years and still goes strong.

  1. Toccata & Fugue in D minor - this one I expected to be on top of the list.

  2. St. Matthew Passion - though my own preference would be St. John Passion. People are spoken.

  3. Cello Suites - No. 1 got the most of the voices. Mstislav Rostropovich is my personal favorite performer of those cello  gems.

Strangely enough but Air from 3rd orchestral suite is absent.

Five best recordings of John Coltrane

Dear John.. Here's your five most popular recordings as of now (Trane' Birthday 2009).

  1. Blue Train - Coltrane' original from Blue Train album.

  2. Giant Steps - jazz musicians litmus test. Giant Steps  album.

  3. Naima - beautiful ballad dedicated to his ex-wife. From the same Giant Steps album.

  4. My Favorite Things - biggest bestseller for Coltrane. Recorded on My Favorite Things album.

  5. Locomotion - another Blue Train album classic.

Five Best Recordings of Charlie Parker

Bebop. And Parker is the King. Here is my first ever survey of Charlie Parker recordings. And the Best Five, as of his 2009 birthday, are as follows:

1. Summertime - That's Gershwin song and arrangement is really close to original. From Bird: The Complete Charlie Parker On Verve
2. Donna Lee
- My favorite. Treat it nicely, please. From The Complete Savoy & Dial Master Takes
3. Ornithology
- all about one bird only. From Ornithology
4. Just Friends
- Bird is popping. Period. From Charlie Parker with Strings: The Master Takes
5. Now’s The Time
- I know this song as long as I remember myself. From
Now's the Time

Five Best Songs from Bill Evans recordings

Bill Evans is the best jazz piano player in my book. His touch, his harmony are the top notch. I still study his chord voicing. I surveyed my friends on Twitter, Facebook, and MyFriends on Bill' 2009 Birthday.

  1. My Foolish Heart - from The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings

  2. Autumn Leaves - from Jazzhouse

    OGOGO0-Mini-Survey
  3. Some Other Time - from The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings

  4. My Man's Gone Now - from Intermodulation - duo with guitarist Jim Hall

  5. Waltz For Debby - from Piano Player

Best Carlos Santana songs

Here is my 2009 Micro survey on Santana songs. Gotta love his tone, his sustain and it doesn't matter if it's Gibson SG, Les Paul or PRS. He did some incredible stuff with John McLaughlin, Alice Coltrane, Wayne Shorter.

  1. Black Magic Woman - it's actually Peter Green song and it comes from Abraxas album.

  2. Oye Como Va - Tito Puente Jr. wrote this one, also from Abraxas album.

  3. Europa - from Moonflower album.

  4. Samba Pa Ti - Abraxas again.

  5. Persuasion - I love the Woodstock version of it.

  6. Evil Ways - from Santana album.

Yah, you can see that Carlos had the most of his juices flowing during recording of Abraxas album. Do you have it? I mean an album.
