Remember those blips in old videogames of 1980-1900s? Did you expect them to live to see XXI century? Me neither.

So, why are those sounds still around? What keeps them alive. Any lesson there to learn? Is it a nostalgia of wasted time in your upbringing? They present the incomparably tense and a bit awkward personality that efficiently operating synthesizers and advanced drum machines have a tough time to contend with.

And which chip is the most regarded, most desirable and most sought after?  It’s definitely Commodore 64’ SIDCommodore 64 chip. How about DMG-CPU found in Nintendo' Game Boy?

8-bit ruled the world. And yes, I used to own Commodore 64 (Right, public domain) with 10 kg disc driver twice bigger size than puter itself. And yes, I used to have a pure digital 4-track back then in 8-bit glory. Did you have Nintendo NES or Sinclair ZX Spectrum?

Chiptunes - the sound of computer chip.

Not to be confused with Chip Music. Chip Music is for those who wants to be a museum curator.

The grow of the chiptune scene in present time has shown just how much sympathy the listeners still have for the simple square waves and bursts of noise.

All of sudden chiptunes are now integrated in mainstream pop. Is it just a nostalgia or degradation of a taste? I know your answer.

AmigaIf you're curious, then there is a huge community of Commodore 64 music and videogameOGOGO-Game Boy enthusiasts out there. The same goes to Amiga (Left, public domain) chiptunes aficionados. Oh, and don't forget Kohina internet radio station.

I conducted survey during October, beginning November on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, and my personal musician's list to determine the best Chiptune artists and here's the combined result of that quest:

  1. 4mat topped the chart. Amazing artist, read his Interview.

  2. Nullsleep came second
