Technology for Efficient Plumbing

SharkBite manufactures plumbing systems for residential and commercial applications. For more than two decades, SharkBite has been at the forefront of innovating products that solve problems and help the trade work more productively and efficiently. SharkBite solutions work across a wide range of applications, including single-family and multifamily home construction, repiping, remodel, service and repair work, and water heater installations.

SharkBite Male Connectors combine innovative push-to-connect design with a standard MNPT adapter on the opposite end. The push-to-connect straight connector is the easiest plumbing fitting to join any combination of Copper, PEX, CPVC, PE-RT or SRD9 HDPE pipe together. With no soldering, clamps, unions or glue required, it's as simple as inserting the pipe into the fitting deep enough to be sealed by our specially-formulated O-ring.

  • Designed for potable water and radiant heating
  • Rated up to 200 degrees and 200 psi
  • Fits copper tubing and CTS, CPVC and PEX
  • Integral pipe liner for PEX installations
  • Inspector friendly; peace of mind
  • Lead free DZR brass body resistant to corrosion

Not gonna lie. When I first got these I was concerned about leaks and waking up to my basement flooding as I had never used them. I''m used to either brazing copper pipes or priming and gluing pvc tubing. I''m a bit of a control guy and when I moved into my house years ago had ripped out the horror that was the tubing entering my basement from the well pump.. put in a whole house filter, pressure tank, other, removable filters and carbon filters, water softener etc. After years of use the softener had given up and the mechanisms sprung leaks all over. I wanted to take that out and instead put in an iron removing filter as our sinks and toilets need constant scrubbing with some of our lighter clothes becoming "work on the car" items due to staining. I read a lot of reviews here and elsewhere about the sharkbite connectors and wound up ordering them.. heck, they were returning so why not? I cut cpvc to length and put connected everything with sharkbite elbows, reducers, and a valves. Once I slipped everything together, crossed my fingers and opened up the water. Hmm,.. so far so good but lets wait and see.. turned on the water throughout the house and watched everything pop and shake as air bled out of the system and pressurized to 70psi. Okay.. so far so good. Cleaned up and went upstairs to eat.. came back down checking for leaks... went to watch tv (The Boys-started slow but ROCKS)... wife and I took turns checking for leaks. Went to bed... got up a few times... and now it''s been a few weeks. Not a drop of water and none of the pipes has tried to slip out as we have them all marked for this purpose. These things rock! One of the things I like best is that you can rotate the fittings (ie; the pipes can still move, rotate etc) without leaks which means it''s all super forgiving if you get your lengths slightly off and stuff is not 100% straight and true.. it adjusts.. something PVC and Copper do NOT do... and I can also move stuff around a few inches if needed without cutting/de-brazing pipes etc. I''m a convert!

I had to change out a tub valve through a tiny 7 inch round opening . This fitting had 4 pipes: A hot and cold PEX, a PEX running to the shower, and a hard copper line running to the tub spout. All fittings were iron pipe thread into the valve. The PEX fittings will slip and rotate (with some difficulty) so I was able to unscrew them, and I was barely able to fit a mini tubing cutter around the copper to cut it. That''s where this SharkBite fitting came in. With a bit of delicate attention to the end of the copper to make sure that it wasn''t sharp, this fitting slid right over the copper and allowed me to tighten it into the valve body. Everything lined up like before and nothing leaked. This took all day, but that was due to the tiny opening that i had to work through. This SharkBite was the easiest to install (30 seconds) and everything is just as rigid as before. Well worth the money.

My only concern was that there was a bit of solder on the pipe that I delicately filed off. After that I polished it off with 600 grit sandpaper to eliminate any possible remaining file marks. If there had been a solder bump or file groove, it is quite possible that would have resulted in a leak, since the sealing location point is to the outside of the pipe.

In the end all worked out well, and I am satisfied.

When I first saw a sharkbite at my local hardware store, I thought, That''s gonna be *so* useful ... if it works!
I put it in a difficult application, near a pump that vibrates in a system with heated water and fluctuating pressure ... but also in a place where if it blew, it wouldn''t flood the house. At the time I thought that the ease of installation was enough ... but now, two pumps and six years later, the ease of disconnecting, and the brute reliability of the connection, has me throwing sharkbites at plumbing problems all over the place!
They''re polymorphously perverse: you can shove pex, copper, or CPVC in there, and the connection *works*. In places where firing up a torch and soldering is scary (like in the crawlspace under your house) a sharkbite or two works as well, and reduces the anxiety by a couple of orders of magnitude.
Talking to my plumbing parts supplier, I asked him if "real plumbers" (I''m a DIY property owner) use sharkbites, and he laughed. "Some hate ''em, because they''re too easy," he said. I asked about reliability, and he recounted his company''s story: when they first came out, the ''too easy'' factor was in everyone''s mind ... so they made up a tester with a pressure tank and a couple of sharkbite connections and then used their shop compressor to take the pressure up to about 120psi. For several months, they expected a pop or a hiss, but the pressure held steady. So the apparatus got pushed to the back of a storage area and forgotten for a few years ... and then, at long last, there was the expected whoosh! They pulled the apparatus out, only to find that the pressure tank had rusted through and failed.
He did offer a caveat: the only time sharkbites fail is when the pipe being pushed in has a sharp edge, and damages the o-ring. So be sure to eliminate any sharpnesses, and bevel the tube end slightly before shoving. There''s a cool little orange tool specifically meant for beveling and marking pex for proper insertion: worth the price. You''ll also want the little orange doo-hickey that lets you release the device from the tube for removal.

I was skeptical about these, though I frequently heard that they were revolutionary for plumbing... Well, I''m a convert. These things are pretty amazing. I used them to mount a whole house water filter that I''ve mounted with compression adapters in the past. I screwed them into either end of the filter with Teflon tape, pushed the pipes into either end, and held my breath as I turned the water on. No leaks... not even a tiny drip.

Note: they are also about $4 cheaper at Amazon than they are at Home Depot, and with next day delivery, it''s a no brainer to buy them here.

Have been using Sharkbites for years on plumbing jobs for the numerous houses I have lived in (retired Military, moved 6+ times a s a homeowner). When doing a renovation and you are limited on where you can access without tearing apart drywall or subfloor, these (and all sharkbite fittings are a lifesaver). I used these to install a new shower panel setup, with uses a 1/2 FIP inflow (Vigo Kingsley system). They worked perfect and plan to use the other two for a tub install since they use the same fitting inlet. My usual use and first thing I do is replace the sink and toilet fittings with 1/4 turn shut-offs and have never had any issues. They also come in great in a pinch for installing a shut off valve on water lines when you want to shut off a hose line, sections of your house, etc. Amazon had them cheaper in a 4 pack than the local and big box stores, so it was a no brainer!

I''m not a plumber, and although these Shark Bite fittings really like the PEX lines, I''ve seen them used with copper lines for years. The leaks\failures that I have seen with these are usually due to the condition of the pipe end at the time of install. Some failures were caused by the pipe\assembly shifting out of line with fitting, or the pipe was installed at an angle leaving a gap on one side of the O-ring seal.
As long as the cut is clean and all surfaces are smooth, the bite holds. (Sharp edges and burrs can nick the ring.) If any contact surface of the copper end has any imperfections, it will not form a permanent or maybe not even a watertight seal with the O-ring. I used a hand file and some wet\dry 220grit abrasive paper to get the copper in a ready-to-attach condition.
